I love watching people when they receive one of these decorated shortbread cookies. Their reactions are priceless, regardless of whether they’re young (two), sort of young (16) or wise beyond their years (30 plus). Decorating them is a
treat – I love preparing a palate of colors of royal icing with trays upon trays of blank cookies at my side.

A businessman (wise beyond his years) once ordered my decorated cookies for a huge corporate presentation; the cookies needed to resemble a piece of medical equipment. Upon picking up his order, he opened the box and started laughing in my kitchen. Fearful of disappointing a client, I asked if he was ok. He said he’d
been more nervous about how my cookies were going to look than he was about
his presentation. Now he was afraid they might steal the show. In the end, he
didn’t hand out the cookies until after his presentation, but I’m happy to report
that both the presentation and the cookies were a hit.
